Purpose
The Considerate Constructors Scheme Ltd (the Company) welcomes the introduction of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and supports its objectives. This statement supports the Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement of the
Company and sets out the steps that the Company has taken and is continuing to take.
Scope
This statement applies to all persons engaged in work on behalf of the Company and all our supply chain (including product suppliers, providers of professional services firms such as lawyers, accountants, and other consultants).
Organisation Structure
The Company is a Not-for-Profit organisation with offices based in the UK and we currently employ around 40 people.
Our operational business area covers the UK and Ireland.
Our purpose is to provide administrative services to companies in line with agreed contractual terms and conditions.
Our Business
Recommended by local authorities, the government and major industry clients, every year thousands of construction sites, organisations and suppliers voluntarily register with the Scheme and are monitored against the Code of Considerate Practice.
The Code is designed to encourage best practice beyond statutory requirements.
The Scheme’s Code has three areas: Respect the Community, Care for the Environment and Value their Workforce.
Building a Safer Future (BSF) is committed to raising standards in building safety in the wake of the Grenfell Tower disaster and to support required culture change.
The BSF Champion assessment process gives companies detailed insight into their existing leadership and culture around building safety and equips them with actionable data and practical tools to help review and upgrade processes and regain public trust.
Our Policy on Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking
Modern slavery encompasses slavery, servitude, human trafficking and forced labour. The Company has a zero-tolerance approach to any form of modern slavery. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity and transparency in all business dealings and to putting effective systems and controls in place to safeguard against any form of modern slavery taking place within the business or our supply chain.
Through internal communications, the Company will highlight the issue of modern slavery to our employees, consultants, Monitors, Assessors, Directors, and all other personnel working on our behalf. These groups are encouraged to report any concerns, and management are required to investigate and, where necessary, take appropriate action relating to any concerns expressed. This is further supported by the Whistleblowing Policy, which all employees are made aware of.
Training
We will facilitate training for relevant personnel within our business, so that they may understand the signs of modern slavery and what to do if they suspect it is taking place within our supply chain.
Supply Chain
Our supply chain includes product suppliers, providers of professional services firms such as lawyers, accountants, and other consultants.
We want to work with suppliers and consultants who share our commitment to tackling modern slavery. We will review our practices, policies, and procedures to establish the best way of incorporating our policy on modern slavery, with the goal of ensuring that any third parties with whom we deal, are making efforts to prevent forced labour and human trafficking in their business.
As part of our procurement with suppliers, we require that they confirm to us that:
- They have taken steps to eradicate modern slavery within their business
- They hold their own suppliers to account over modern slavery
- They pay their employees at least the minimum wage / national living wage (as appropriate)
We may terminate the contract at any time should any instances of modern slavery come to light.
Performance Indicators
We will understand the effectiveness of the steps that we are taking to ensure slavery and/or human trafficking is not taking place within the business or supply chain, if no reports are received from employees, suppliers and the public or law enforcement agencies to indicate that modern slavery practices have been identified.
Monitoring, Review and Approval
This statement is made and published in accordance with section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
It is reviewed annually, or sooner if required by working practices or legislative requirements, to ensure its continued relevance and effectiveness.
