Considerate Constructors Partner Kier hosts Open Doors 2024 launch

Construction sites across the length and breadth of the UK are getting ready to open their hoardings, as part of the Open Doors 2024 initiative – which the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) is a Partner in delivering.
In the run-up to Open Doors week, which takes place between 18 and 24 March 2024, Open Doors held a launch event on 9 November at one of CCS Partner Kier’s construction site at the Refinery Development at ARC West London.  Â
Popular with children and young people, Open Doors gives individuals a chance to tour construction sites with experts to understand key details about specific job roles within construction, along with the essential skills that are required to successfully deliver construction projects to a high standard.
Open Doors is designed to showcase the diverse range of careers available within the construction industry, and allows interested parties and the general public to take a first-hand look behind site hoardings.
Showcasing Careers in Construction
As part of the official Open Doors launch event, CCS joined a group of students from Fulham Cross Academy for an exclusive insight into what a career in construction might look like as they toured the Refinery Development.
Students heard from six apprentices who are currently placed on emerging talent programmes at Kier, and gained in-depth insight into the diverse range of construction roles available at Kier, from on-site management and design to quantity surveying and more.

There is nothing like experiencing the buzz of activity on a construction site, to realise how the industry is incredibly exciting, interesting and varied. Signing-up for an Open Doors visit offers the chance to step behind the hoarding of construction sites and see where a career in construction could take you.
Accessible to All
In addition to tours of landmark construction sites, like the CCS-registered Refinery Development, Open Doors also welcomes and supports visits to construction training facilities, corporate offices and manufacturing sites, giving an even broader insight into the wide variety of on and off-site roles that keep the construction industry moving, including back-office support jobs, front-of-house sales role and cutting-edge technical roles.

Over 70% of construction sites involved in the 2023 Open Doors initiative were registered with the CCS.
