The Scheme has recognised 43 outstanding individuals, exceptional sites and organisations of all sizes with their Leading Lights Awards. The winners of the 2022 awards were announced at the Scheme's annual award ceremony, held on Thursday 24 November at the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester.

The Leading Lights Awards are the Scheme’s new national awards, launched to recognise projects and initiatives that have gone the extra mile to deliver positive results in the spaces where people live, work and play in any of the three areas of the Scheme’s Code of Considerate Practice: Respecting the Community, Caring for the Environment and Valuing the Workforce.

Amanda Long, Chief Executive of the Considerate Constructor Scheme, said:

I’m delighted to congratulate the winners of our new Leading Lights Awards. The Leading Lights Awards are a reflection of our new strategy, which is centred around building a culture of continuous improvement in the construction industry, raising standards and building trust. The Leading Lights Awards are a worthy successor to the Scheme’s National Site and Company Awards and the natural evolution of how we recognise Considerate Practice, by celebrating those that go above and beyond the Code.

The awards have been presented to sites, ultra-sites and organisations in size bands in the three main categories: community, environment and workforce. You can find a full list of all the winners and more information on the initiative they were recognised for on the Leading Lights Awards Website.

Additionally, one individual was recognised as a Champion in each of the main categories, and on the night, nine particularly outstanding projects were acknowledged with an Overall Winner Trophy.

The event itself reflected and embodied the values of the Code, with emphasis on creating value in the local community and on sustainability. Particular efforts have gone into using local suppliers where possible, to reduce carbon footprint and promote local talent. The Scheme has also strived to use recyclable, reused or sustainable items for the venue dressing while the trophies were produced from recycled glass and sustainable wood.

The Leading Lights Awards will return in 2023, submissions will open in the new year and more information will be provided on the Leading Lights Awards website in due course.

The three individual Champions are:

• Community Champion: Chris Page, Senior Site Manager Jenner (Contractors) Ltd for the initiative: Community Engagement - Folkstone Seafront Development
• Environment Champion: Benjamin Gibbs, Marketing & Sustainability Manager TCi (GB) Ltd for the initiative: TCi Sustainability Charter
• Workforce Champion: Stuart Middleton, Project Manager, Lovell Partnerships Ltd for the initiative: Mental Health Site Garden

The Awards Overall Winners

Among all winners, nine particularly outstanding projects were acknowledged with an Overall Winner Trophy on the night. These are:

• Overall Environment Winner Ultra Site: Paddington Square, Mace for the initiative: Reducing Carbon Consumption
• Overall Environment Winner Site: Par St Blazey Flood Alleviation Scheme, Kier Infrastructure, Regional Civil Engineering for the initiative: Biodiversity Net Gain Initiatives
• Overall Environment Winner Organisation: Protec International Ltd for the initiative: Protec ClosedLoop Remanufacturing Scheme
• Overall Workforce Winner Ultra Site: HQ Project, Bank Street, Overbury plc for the initiative: Combatting Period Poverty
• Overall Workforce Winner Site: Broadacre Primary School, Sewell Construction Ltd for the initiative: Equality, diversity and inclusion
