The Considerate Constructors Scheme Awards 2023
On Monday 27 November, the 2023 winners of our prestigious Considerate Constructors Scheme’s (CCS) national Leading Lights Awards were announced at an eagerly anticipated awards ceremony at the Lancaster Hotel, central London.
The ceremony showcased the exemplary work of UK and Irish construction organisations, their sites and individuals - celebrating their outstanding efforts in going above beyond the CCS Code of Considerate Practice.
Over 350 guests attended the glittering award ceremony to celebrate 51 construction sites and organisations, and 12 individuals who, in their projects and initiatives, have raised the bar in being a Considerate Constructor.
The awards categories reflected the three core focus areas of the CCS’s Code: Respecting the Community, Caring for the Environment and Valuing the Workforce.
Among the sites, organisations and individuals recognised at the event, 11 were crowned Overall Winners and Individual Champions, for the outstanding impact and value of their initiatives.
Overall winners and Individual Champions
Community: Overall Winners
- Site: Tyzack Road, TSG Building Services, for the initiative: “Aiding the local community in the Cost-of-Living Crisis”
- Organisation: Rubicon Heritage Services, for the initiative: “the Shindig Archaeology Podcast’
- Ultra Site: Old Oak Common Station Project, Balfour Beatty – Vinci – Systra Joint Venture (BBVS JV), for the initiative: “’See The Skills’ Employment and Education Strategy”
Environment: Overall Winners
- Site: Northampton Gateway, Winvic Construction, for the initiative: “The Segro Logistics Park Net-Zero Strategy”
- Ultra Site: Wood Wharf, Canary Wharf Contractors, for the initiative: “Biodiversity Enhancements”
- Organisation: Wernick Hire, for the initiative: “Net-Zero By 2040”
Workforce: Overall Winners
- Site: Watkin Road Bridge, Danaher & Walsh (Civil Engineering), for the initiative: “Women in Construction: Watkin Road Bridge Replacement Scheme”
- Organisation: GRAHAM Construction, for the initiative: “Supporting Women at Graham”
Individual Champions
- Community Champion: Heather Bryant, Galliford Try, for the initiative: “Employment and development opportunities for Prison Leavers”
- Environment Champion: Paul Craig, Telford Homes, for the initiative: “Electrification of Construction Sites”
- Workforce Champion: Rafal Deska, Stella Rossa, for the initiative: “Workplace Wellness Challenge: Get Fit, Don’t Quit.”
On behalf of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, huge congratulations to all this year’s award winners. These construction sites, organisations and individuals should be immensely proud of their success. The enthusiasm and considerate practice they have shown in being a Considerate Constructor is highly commendable; achieving great standards through initiatives across communities, the environment and the industry’s workforce.
The day also celebrated the 25+ years that the Considerate Constructors Scheme has been in operation since it was established in 1997 helping transform the construction industry’s image.
Through our Code, we set out a series of clear, attainable guidelines and benchmarks that work to support and encourage constructors to raise their standards in how they work with the communities that surrounds their projects, their environmental impact, and their consideration for their workforce.
Winners were awarded in the following categories:
Community: Community Enrichment Award; Local Sourcing Award; Community Engagement Award.
Environment: Plastic Reduction Award; Natural Environment Award; Enhancement and Energy Efficiency Award.
Workforce: Physical Wellbeing Award; Mental Health Award; Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Award.
