Checklist and Fees updates for 2024

The Monitor Checklist and Self-Assessment are at the core of the work of the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS). They support contractors and construction suppliers by providing a framework for improvement in the areas of Community, Environment and Workforce, highlighting what good considerate practice looks like.

As construction and the needs of society evolve with the times, we periodically revisit our Checklist and Self-Assessment to ensure they remain relevant and continue to provide a positive challenge for the industry, pushing it to always be a better neighbour, more environmentally sustainable and a caring employer every day.

In this spirit, we will be rolling out a few updates to the Checklist and Self-Assessment which will come in effect from 1st January 2024. From introducing new health and safety measures, to ensuring the equitable provision of sanitary products for all genders, these new enhancements are designed to empower registered activities, minimise disruption, and benefit the workforce.

Monitor Checklist Changes for 2024

1.1.2 Clarified: Registered Activity must ensure that all workforce receives induction on the Code of Considerate Practice.
Previously the need to communicate the Code of Practice to the workforce was only implied. If staff inductions on the Code happen only at a projects kick-off, personnel and sub-contracted trades that change during the project can miss them. The Scheme provides an Operatives Guide that may be used to help achieve conformance for this requirement.
1.2.2 New requirement: Those responsible for delivering Code conformance must complete the 4 CCS e-Learning modules on the Code.
Data shows that where the person responsible for Code compliance has completed the Scheme’s Code e-Learning generally score higher on average than those sites where the person has not taken the modules.
3.1.2 Clarified: Registered Activity do not need a specific recognition process for considerate practice, they may recognise individuals through their existing reward and recognition processes.
This change confirms that Registered Activities may use their existing employee reward and recognition processes.
3.2.2 New requirement: Registered Activity must maintain administrative controls for health and safety, including providing suitable PPE in female sizes.
Both CIOB and the National Association of Women in Construction Yorkshire Region have warned that many employers do not provide PPE that fits females, this new addition addresses this issue (see this case study on our Best Practice Hub).
3.3.1 New requirement: Registered Activity to ensure the provision of female sanitary products and sanitary disposal in both female and male toilets.
Growing awareness of male incontinence has meant that sanitary bins for men are now appearing in many public and workplace settings. The CCS has awarded a number of best practices in this area during 2023, this change supports wellbeing in the workplace.

CCS Fees updates for 2024

We will be increasing some of our fees by an average 7% from 1 January 2024. Fees increases are never popular, however this takes into account the increased costs of investing in the continuous development of the Scheme which will help to provide you with greater value through our initiatives and services.
