What does considerate construction mean for you and your community?
The Considerate Constructors Scheme promotes high standards and accountability within the construction industry. It is a voluntary scheme, meaning that Scheme‑registered contractors and organisations are actively working to improve the way they operate by raising their standards and being more considerate to communities, the environment, and their workforce.
Registered activity
All Scheme registered activity must follow the Code of Considerate Practice and is visited by an independent Monitor, who scores performance and addresses any non conformance. Our aim is to help the construction industry become more considerate so that your experience of construction activity, whether as a member of the public or the workforce, is improved.
Our Public Support team is available to support anyone who wishes to raise a concern, provide a comment, or share a compliment regarding construction activity, whether it is Scheme registered or not. We recognise the impact that construction activity can have on local communities, and on those living, working, or travelling in areas where construction is taking place. That is why we have a dedicated Public Support team to assist you.
If you are a member of the public or work within the construction industry, we are here to help. You can contact us with any concerns, comments, or compliments relating to construction activity, and our Public Support team will support you wherever we can.

Through our dedicated Public Support team, we help members of the public and the construction workforce with any concerns, comments or compliments they may have about construction activity registered with the Scheme.

What is the code of considerate practice?
The Code of Considerate Practice is a set of achievable guidelines that describe how, beyond statutory requirements, construction teams can operate more responsibly and respectfully. It focuses on three key sections:
How do I know if a construction site or organisation is registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme?
All Scheme registered construction activities display posters and banners to show they are registered with us and to provide contact details for anyone wishing to raise a concern, comment or compliment.

Respect the community
Constructors must manage their impact on their neighbours and the public to support a positive experience by:
- Ensuring courteous and respectful language and appropriate behaviour in and around the construction activity
- Providing a safe environment, preventing unnecessary disturbance and reducing nuisance to the community from their activities
- Proactively maintaining effective engagement with the community to deliver meaningful positive impact.
Care for the environment
Constructors must minimise their impact and enhance the natural environment by:
- Prioritising environmental issues to protect the natural environment and minimising negative impacts
- Optimising the use of resources, including minimising carbon throughout the value chain
- Engaging with the community to improve the local environment in a meaningful way.
Value the workforce
Constructors must create a supportive, inclusive and healthy workplace by:
- Actively encouraging and supporting an inclusive and diverse workplace
- Proactively supporting safe working, mental and physical wellbeing at work
- Providing workplaces that are well maintained, clean and secure from physical and biological hazards.
