Monitoring and Scoring
All Scheme-registered activities are visited periodically by a Monitor who assesses their conformance with the Scheme’s Code of Considerate Practice, and provides them with helpful guidance to deliver continuing improvement.
What is CCS monitoring?
Monitoring is the Scheme’s process of assessing your conformance to the Code of Considerate Practice and helping you identify opportunities for improvement.
Why do we do it?
By monitoring all Scheme-registered activity we support raising standards in the construction industry and deliver real results that help to build trust with the public.
How does it benefit you?
Our Scheme Monitors are experienced industry professionals who provide guidance for how you can improve your performance with the Scheme to raise your standards. You will receive a monitoring report, which provides a benchmark for your performance, to help you identify ways in which you can improve on your considerate practice journey.
Recognition for your work
After each monitoring visit, your site/organisation will receive:Â
- A detailed report from the Scheme Monitor about their findings, highlighting both good practice and areas for improvementÂ
- A Certificate of Performance for you to highlight your achievements in the three areas of the Code, Community, Environment and Workforce.Â

The Scheme recognises outstanding performance through an annual National Awards programme.
The Awards recognise excellence in being a considerate constructor, going above and beyond our Code of Considerate Practice.
Overall Site Scoring and Performance Levels
The Considerate Constructors Scheme scoring system has a total of 5 score category and performance levels which give CCS sites an official specified rating:

Introduction to Site Monitoring
When registering your activity you agree to be visited by an independent Monitor who will score and report on your conformance with the Code.
Our experienced Monitors have extensive knowledge and understanding of construction and construction site monitoring. They are passionate about raising standards and helping to solve current industry challenges.
During the visit a Monitor will observe how your site is being run in relation to the Code, and you will be scored against the three sections of the Code:
- Respecting the community
- Caring for the environment
- Valuing the workforce
During your visit, the Monitor will use the Checklist themes and expectations to explore how you have met the requirements of the Code. The Scheme will then provide you with a report based on the Monitor’s observations. The report highlights where you conform with the Code and where improvement is required.
Monitors' reports and scores reflect their observations on the day. Â It is advised that you use our Visit Preparation tool before their visit. You should also submit your innovations and best practices through the Visit Preparation tool for review by the Monitor during their visit.

Recognising innovation and best practice
The Scheme is committed to supporting continuing improvement in raising standards.We reward and celebrate registered activities that can show they are using innovative or exemplary approaches to respecting the community, caring for the environment, or valuing their workforce. These best practices and innovations can also support a registered activity’s nomination in our annual national awards programme.
What is considered an innovation?
We consider an innovation to be a new idea, device, or method for achieving conformance with the Code of Considerate Practice within the sector or industry. The innovation may be completely new, or adaptation of an existing idea, device, or method applied to a different expectation.
What is considered best practice?
Best practice is considered to be an optimal or optimised method, technique, or device for achieving conformance with a particular expectation of the Code of Considerate Practice. These can be found on the Best Practice Hub.
Innovations and best practices should be submitted for assessment via the CCS Portal prior to a monitoring visit. Alternatively, a Monitor can identify an innovation or best practice during their monitoring visit and submit this as part of the Checklist.
All innovations and best practices are reviewed by the Scheme’s Innovation and Best Practice Review team and successful submissions are then shared on the Best Practice Hub and increase the chances that your site or organisation will win a National Site Award.
How to submit a best practice or innovation
-  Submissions can be made at any time via the CCS Portal up until a site’s final monitored visit and are reviewed through the Scheme’s Best Practice and Innovation process. Where relevant, examples may be discussed or evidenced during a monitoring visit to support understanding and learning.
- Registered activities are encouraged to submit examples that best demonstrate meaningful impact, suitability for their context and alignment with the Code of Considerate Practice. Monitors can provide guidance on submissions where helpful.
Best practices and innovations do not form part of the core checklist score. Instead, approved examples are:
- Highlighted within monitoring reports
- Showcased on the CCS Best Practice Hub
- Used to increase the likelihood of receiving a CCS Award, through their contribution to award assessment and score upweighting
- We recognise that smaller organisations may not have the same resources as larger ones. Innovations are therefore assessed relative to the scale and nature of the activity, with particular value placed on ideas that are practical, accessible and capable of being adopted by others.
- Â An innovation or best practice may be formally recognised once by the Review team. Continued use may be referenced positively in future monitoring reports as evidence of sustained good practice.
- Other sites implementing an approved innovation or best practice from the Hub in a larger fee category will be eligible for the award of a single collaboration point.
Report queries
Questions or comments about your report can be emailed to reports@considerateconstructors.com within 20 working days of the report being issued. The Scheme will investigate and get back to you within 20 working days with one of the following outcomes:
- If the Scheme identifies inaccuracies in the content or scoring of the report these are amended and the report reissued
- If the report is deemed accurate you will receive a written explanation of the rationale for your score
- In exceptional cases, we may offer a visit from a different Monitor and a revised report free of charge.
If you would like the Scheme to consider improvements made following the report you may ask for a revisit, charged at our usual rates.ÂÂÂ
