Forging a long-term relationship with the local community of its Tyzack Road development in High Wycombe, TSG Building Services plc, has gone to exceptional lengths to make a difference to the lives of vulnerable adults, families and pensioners struggling with the cost of living crisis.
TSG prides itself on giving back to the local community and valued the opportunity to connect with residents around Tyzack Road to identify how it could deliver a positive impact. The project itself involved the construction of 9 shared ownership and affordable rent homes on a former garage site on behalf of Red Kite Community Housing.
The initiative kicked off with the site manager writing to residents inviting them to a welcome event to view plans for the development and introduce the team. He recognised that building a good rapport with residents would help smooth the day-to-day running of the site and support its reputation and that of the construction industry in general. Instantly building a connection with many local households, the site manager was able to understand the dynamics of the area and direct resources to the people who needed it the most.
The team donated waste wooden pallets to households struggling with rising energy prices and needed fuel; this was especially helpful for pensioners and vulnerable residents.

Excess building materials and labour were donated to rebuild fences and walls to provide privacy from the site and improve the general aesthetics of the street.
Supporting local schools, TSG invited children to the site to teach them about construction and safety. The site manager also asked children to put their knowledge and creativity to the test with a construction site picture competition.
This project is an exceptional example of a company going above and beyond, showing genuine care and consideration for the community. Delivering a meaningful impact reflective of the needs of the area, this initiative has generated high levels of engagement and created a complaint free project. Local residents have positively engaged with the site team, and have demonstrated their gratitude by donating food, furniture and even Christmas decorations to TSG’s welfare unit on site.
The success of this initiative has led to similar community engagement schemes on other TSG developments, including Keary Road in Kent where the donation of excess materials has benefited a local allotment.
