One Leadenhall

Multiplex Construction Europe Ltd

Construction Project Overview

One Leadenhall is a 35-storey office development situated beside the historic Leadenhall Market in the City of London. Focussed on its environmental credentials, the project is aiming for both BREEAM and Well certifications. Multiplex Construction has been awarded a Gold National Site Award for the incredible standards upheld during the project in 2023. The project team has been dedicated to enhancing standards in construction, seeking to make a lasting positive impact on the environment, the community, and the welfare of its workforce.

Project Highlights

The project team has engaged in wide-ranging community engagement efforts, including the measurement of social value. The company holds accreditations for its environmental management procedures, and has developed “One Decade to Act”, a science-based initiative aimed at achieving net zero emissions. The site demonstrated excellent health and safety practices, with accreditations, strong leadership, and digital management systems that improved productivity and reduced paper use. The site’s response to the Code of Considerate Practice and its goals has been exemplary.

Innovations and Best Practices

The project team has also gone above and beyond with their approach to innovation and best practice, with 1 CCS-approved innovation and 1 best practice being implemented on-site. The team has utilised a best-practice Column Pitching Platform to help raise construction columns to a vertical position in a safe way. This eliminates the time-consuming and hazardous process of lifting columns from ground level. The platform offers increased safety due to the shorter distance between crane operators and workers. With its adaptable design, the platform can be customised for various construction sites and steel beam layouts. The team also introduced an innovative digital traffic analysis system called KONE Site Flow to minimise traffic issues on-site and boost productivity.

Respecting the Community

The project has used well-developed community engagement strategies, tracking its impact with dedicated software. Community values are constantly emphasised to the workforce, and procedures are in place to minimise disruption to neighbours.

Caring for the Environment

The project has developed a comprehensive set of environmental and sustainability policies. The company’s “One Decade To Act” strategy outlines its commitment to net zero, and the team actively seeks ways to communicate its environmental performance. They are also exploring opportunities to reduce carbon emissions through initiatives such as the city’s whole-life carbon assessment.

Valuing the Workforce

The site has fostered a positive workplace that prioritises inclusion, diversity, teamwork, and opportunities for training and development. Demonstrating a strong commitment to health and safety, the project exceeds industry standards with robust procedures and a focus on occupational health. The project’s support for mental wellbeing and welfare facilities for workers has also been excellent.

Congratulations to the team for these outstanding performance levels.
