Construction Project Overview

Manor Road is a residential development in Canning Town, London comprising of 355 mixed-tenure apartments spread over three buildings, the tallest of which is 34 storeys high. The project will also see the construction of 555m2 of commercial space, along with extensive landscaping to form a new external linear park running alongside the DLR line from Canning Town Tube Station, to Star Park. Morgan Sindal Construction and Infrastructure has been awarded a Considerate Constructors Scheme Gold National Site Award for the incredible standards upheld during the project in 2023.

Project Highlights

The team have made an exceptionally positive impact on the community, workforce and environment, in line with the scheme’s Code of Considerate Practice. The level of organisation and pre-arranged contacts is impressive, especially with regards to the community. Positive attitudes demonstrated by the workforce are exemplary, with sustainable conformance evident, supporting numeracy, literacy, mental health and translation, which have all stood out.

Innovations and Best Practices

The project team went above and beyond by implementing 2 best practice initiatives to optimise site practices. First, they designed prefabricated utility units with whiteboard walls and QR codes for test certificates, enhancing efficiency and compliance. Second, they introduced mobile toilet pods on each floor, improving site hygiene and streamlining workflow as construction progressed.

Respecting the Community

Morgan Sindall’s employment and skills plan has demonstrated a positive community impact. The team’s outreach exceeds expectations, involving 11 local charities, regular community engagement, informative newsletters, and exceptional educational and skills promotion efforts.

Caring for the Environment

The Morgan Sindall team created and diligently followed a comprehensive environmental plan, designed to preserve and enhance the natural environment. Their initiatives aim to minimise environmental impact, including carbon monitoring, site electrification, and the creation of a park with over 50 trees, shrubs, and plants.

Valuing the Workforce

The project team have also delivered outstanding welfare facilities, which have been meticulously maintained for hygiene and security. The team’s commitment to staff wellbeing is evident in healthy eating initiatives, mental health training, and equality, diversity and inclusion inductions. They also prioritise staff development through the scheme’s e-learning modules, proactively upskilling their workforce.
