Prioritising local employment and work life balance, John Sisk & Son have created a regional ‘Yorkshire Hub’ of employees and subcontractors to boost the local economy and the livelihoods of those that live there. The Hub was developed in response to extensive engineering works on the A629 in Halifax and has helped source 94% of workers living within 40 miles of the site, with 41% living within 10 miles. The ability to quickly connect with suppliers has allowed the project team to allocate 55% of supply chain spend locally, including stonemason’s Set in Stone. By harnessing specialist local knowledge, the project team were able to respect the architectural heritage of the Yorkshire stone walls, whilst minimising travel, promoting a better work/life balance and reducing carbon emissions.
