After a fire at the National Grid 2GW IFA interconnector, the Mission Sellindge project was established to build a HVDC convertor station in 16 months, rather than five years. With a challenging project ahead, requiring employees to work away from home on long shifts, National Grid knew it needed a wellbeing approach that was different. The Health Hub is a 24/7 on-site wellbeing centre that is accessible to all, and includes: a canteen; recreation space; garden; gym; a quiet room for prayer and reflection; and a space to reconnect virtually with family and friends. The Hub has raised the industry bar for health and wellbeing resources, taking strides in improving physical and mental health, boosting moral, and building knowledge and behaviours that could be used beyond the project.
