Gallions Phase 2b

Telford Homes Ltd

Construction Project Overview

The Gallions Quarter Phase 2B project involves the construction of 276 newly built apartments, including 135 affordable and shared ownership units and a green space. Telford Homes has been awarded a Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) Gold National Site Award for the incredible standards upheld during the project in 2023. The site team has consistently demonstrated their commitment to environmental care and achieving positive impacts for their workforce and the surrounding community.

Project Highlights

The project team has excelled in adhering to the Code of Considerate Practice, demonstrated by steadily improving CCS scores. This commitment to considerate construction principles is evident across all aspects of the project. There’s a clear focus on the company’s carbon reduction goals, and innovative best practices have been integrated throughout.

Innovations and Best Practices

The project team has achieved 3 CCS-approved best practices. An Ethical Site Survey confirmed compliance with ethical employment standards. Protective crane closures were implemented, preventing unauthorised access and thereby reducing the risk of on-site accidents. Inspired by the aviation industry, illuminated batons and wands enhance traffic marshal visibility and safety.

Respecting the Community

Site teams have been exemplary at treating the community with care and respect. Changes to site hours or disruptive works were communicated with advance notice through a site newsletter and postal letters. There were designated delivery routes, and a remote holding area was used during periods of high traffic. £10,000 was donated to a local charity, to create a positive community impact. CCS principles were integrated into the site induction and reinforced through signage.

Caring for the Environment

Emphasis was placed on the company’s environmental policy and site-specific plans during induction. Sustainable travel options were encouraged, and waste was meticulously managed. Motion-activated lighting and push-action taps conserved resources. Monitoring and proactive measures ensured noise and light pollution were minimised. The company demonstrated a clear commitment to carbon net zero, with defined goals and progress tracking against industry KPIs.

Valuing the Workforce

The site team has also implemented a range of comprehensive policies to protect workers and guarantee welfare provisions, from installing a ‘faith room’ for workers, to creating welfare-focused policies. The team actively sought feedback and supported personal development plans for all staff, encouraging training for subcontractors as well. Wellbeing initiatives included healthy food options, support for positive lifestyle changes, and clean, well-maintained welfare facilities with separate male and female amenities.

Congratulations to the team for these outstanding performance levels.
