Construction Project Overview

The project is a large-scale housing development in Danesgate, Stevenage, led by a leading UK construction company with a strong track record in housing partnerships. Lovell Partnerships has been awarded a Considerate Constructors Scheme Gold National Site Award for the incredible standards upheld during the project in 2023. The project team has been committed to delivering a project with superior environmental standards, community integration, and a focus on its workforce throughout the 2023 period.

Project Highlights

The site team has been dedicated to creating a clean, tidy and well-organised space, and there were controlled access arrangements in place via cutting-edge biometric M-Site turnstiles and a full-time gateman, who also assisted with the organisation of deliveries/ plant movements and site logistics. The site was environmentally accredited, and site teams produced a holistic environmental plan to identify the risks and receptors of construction activities together with all stakeholders that might have been affected by the development. The project team was committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2030 and implemented a range of plans to achieve positive environmental impacts. The site also demonstrated a commitment to key community outreach initiatives and working closely with community stakeholders. Additionally, the site was exemplary in its approach to supporting occupational health and championing health and wellbeing for its workforce.

Innovations & Best Practices

In addition to achieving excellent standards across the site, the team was committed to innovation by introducing an innovative battery energy storage system called AMPD Enertainer, which filled a market gap by offering diesel-free construction power. Enertainers stored energy from various sources, ready for use when needed. Compared to diesel generators, Enertainers produced 90% less CO2 emissions. They produced zero on-site emissions and were suitable for indoor use too.

Respecting the Community

The team prioritised disruption mitigation through a clean and secure site and built strong relationships within the Stevenage community. They took proactive steps like hosting a “Meet The Contractor” event and volunteering for local biodiversity initiatives, demonstrating a genuine commitment to the local area.

Caring for the Environment

The project possessed environmental accreditation, and the team maintained a comprehensive environmental plan that addressed potential risks and safeguarded all stakeholders. To achieve their Net Zero emissions target by 2030, they aimed to reduce Scope 1, 2, & 3 emissions by 30% compared to their 2019 baseline. Their efforts included the successful implementation of HVO fuel and regular environmental progress reviews at a director level.

Valuing the Workforce

The company also maintained an equal opportunities/diversity policy and fostered an open-door culture that prioritised employee development and wellbeing. They were accredited for environmental management, demonstrating their commitment to occupational safety. Employee health was a priority, with resources ranging from general health checks to on-site mental health first aiders. The team further demonstrated their commitment to their workforce through clean facilities, Mental Health & Wellbeing Fairness, Inclusion & Respect (FIR) Ambassadors, and initiatives like occupational nurse visits.
