Having experienced the loss of a colleague to suicide on a previous project, BAM Nuttall’s team at Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme Phase 2 have gone the extra mile to deliver a programme of mental health and wellbeing support. With 200 individuals onsite including the client, designers and subcontractors, the challenge was to ensure anyone could access support quickly and easily when they needed it. Launched alongside the company’s own mental health resources, the initiative included 7 Mental Health First Aiders, mental health check-ins, workshops and access to the Leeds Rhino’s Foundation Offload Mental Fitness Programme. The project was met with great success and has already left a lasting legacy with teams taking ideas back to their own organisations and similar schemes organised on other BAM Nuttall sites.
