Respecting the local community was paramount for Balfour Beatty at the Wyre Beach Management Scheme, a highly visible public project that required the import of 17,000 tonnes of rock to support existing sea defences. The team knew early engagement was key to help mitigate the impact of extensive site work. Through collaborative workshops with the Council and local stakeholders, a number of tactics were decided including: agreeing working hours, delivery times and a delivery route, as well as installing live continuous vibration monitoring. Through regular consultation, information sharing and by supporting community groups, the team have worked hard to ensure they respect local stakeholders, leaving a positive image of the construction industry and a lasting legacy in the community.
