Each year we help thousands of construction sites, organisations and suppliers to raise their standards by:
- Reducing their negative impact on the community and the environment around them
- Providing positive contributions to the community and the environment
- Improving workforce conditions.
Every month we help hundreds of members of the public who have concerns or feedback about construction activity.
How we are run
The Scheme is an independently managed, not-for-profit organisation that works side-by-side with the construction industry and the public to raise standards and build trust.
Over the past three decades we have promoted and supported improvement in the way construction activity impacts the community, the environment and its workforce.
The Scheme is a self-financing, independently run organisation.
The Scheme is owned by the Construction Umbrella Bodies (Holdings) Ltd which is made up of the Construction Products Association and the Construction Industry Council.
The Scheme has a Board of Directors comprising individuals from both within and outside of the construction industry.
How the CCS Scheme works
When contractors and suppliers register their construction activity with the Scheme they agree to abide by the Code of Considerate Practice and to be visited by a Scheme Monitor.
As part of their registration, they are required to display public-facing banners and posters to demonstrate their commitment to the Scheme’s Code of Considerate Practice and all it stands for. These posters feature the Scheme’s contact information so that anyone can get in touch with our Public Support team if they have concern or feedback about the construction activity.
To determine if the Code is being observed and to help continue raising standards, independent Monitors visit and assess each registered construction activity to see how well they conform with the Code.
After each visit, a report is made highlighting how the construction activity is performing in relation to the Code. The report also includes notes and resources to help improve performance.
As well as providing guidance, this monitoring process provides us with insights into how construction sites are changing and what industry challenges need tackling.
As a client of construction projects, hiring a team registered with the Scheme can offer reassurance that the contractors appointed are committed to the Code and to improving the way they work, as well as helping to raise industry standards.
Scheme Supporters
Scheme Supporters are Organisations that support the Scheme’s objectives of raising standards in construction and achieve real results that helps to build trust. Scheme Supporters are connected in some way to one of the three parts of the Scheme’s Code of Considerate Practice by providing support to the workforce, communities or the environment.
Scheme Supporters
Building People is a hub for equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in the built environment. Its mission is to improve representation across the sector by enabling and empowering a collaborative movement for inclusive change, with a ‘Network of Networks’ of organisations that provide careers support to people from under-represented groups.Â
The Construction Industry Helpline provides welfare and support to the construction community. By calling their confidential hotline, construction workers and their families have access to occupational health and mental wellbeing advice; support on legal, tax and debt management matters; and emergency financial aid for those in crisis.
Go Construct provides resources to help people from all backgrounds who want to enter the construction sector. Their information and advice can help you find the right fit for your interests and skills.
Prostate Cancer UK researches and creates awareness about prostate cancer, while also providing support to men with prostate cancer. They aim to unite the brightest minds in science and healthcare with passionate and caring people to help men live well.

Winning a National Site Award
The National Site Awards recognise the efforts that constructors have made to be the most considerate neighbours. They recognised those that are creating value in the communities surrounding them, and those that are respectful of the public, the workforce, and the environment.
Each year, the winners are presented with either Bronze, Silver or Gold depending on their performance against the Code of Considerate Practice, within similar project value bandings to ensure fairness.
Out of the very highest performing Gold Award winners, one site per value band is honoured with the prestigious title of Most Considerate Site (Runner-ups are also recognised, if applicable).
These sites represent the pinnacle of considerate construction among their peers, and set the benchmark for others to follow.
Eligibility for the National CCS Site Awards
Entry in the National Site Awards is free and automatic bar a few criteria. To be considered, a site must have had:
- An active CCS registration in the previous year
- Had at least one scored monitoring visit in the previous year
The level of the awards are based on a site's average monitoring score, plus innovation and best practice points achieved in the year prior, and take into account complaints data (eg. 2024 for the 2025 Awards).Â
The value bands of the awards are:
- <£5m
- £5m>£50m
- £50m>£100m
- £100m+
