About the Scheme for Construction Clients
Through our free Client Partnership programme, we help construction clients have visibility of their construction projects’ performance. This supports clients in key challenges such as managing risk, improving relations with local communities and protecting the environment.
We believe a concerted focus on these areas leads to improved outcomes for everyone, and supports construction clients to meet social value and sustainability targets, drive efficiency, deliver on their values and maintain a competitive edge.
Construction clients are critical partners in raising industry standards and in building trust across the communities impacted by their construction activity. We help construction clients to be leaders in their sector.
Becoming a Client Partner
Client Partners commit to registering all of their relevant construction projects with the Scheme.
As a client, this will help you by:
- Tracking your projects’ performance with the Scheme and helping you to make more informed decisions
- Supporting your organisation’s work around social value, community engagement and environmental considerations
- Providing a channel for the public to raise any concerns they may have about your construction activity through the Scheme’s Public Support team
- Providing a leadership community of like-minded clients that share best practice, learn and network together
- Creating a culture of respect and diligence on your sites
- Improving the knowledge of you and your team with learning tools and resources
- Recognising those excelling in being a considerate constructor, which raises standards across the construction industry.

How does client partnership work?
We want to work with you to help raise standards across the construction industry from the inside out. Industry-wide change comes from the top, so if you — as a client, investor, public sector procurement body, or planning authority — make a commitment to raising standards, it encourages the rest of the industry to follow.
To take that first step to raising standards and public trust, all you need to do is become a Client Partner and agree to stipulate construction contractors and suppliers for your projects are registered with the Scheme.
From there we will provide registered activities with the Code, support materials and arrange a Monitor to visit each of your construction sites to score their conformance to the Code. All performance information and reports will be visible on the Insights Dashboard, which will give you visibility of all your sites past and present, plus anonymised data of other sites across the UK and Ireland so that you can benchmark your performance against the national average.
Client Partners can also request additional monitoring and require contractors to undertake our modules in key areas of industry challenge. Current modules include Construction Site Leadership and Culture.

Additional Support
Even though the Client Partnership programme is free we offer a range of services and options to suit your needs, such as:
- Additional monitoring and reporting for higher visibility
- Ability to stipulate additional contractor modules that support your organisational goals
- E-learning available through the Scheme website for your contractors
- Support to stipulate Scheme registration in tenders and contracts.
Commitments of partnership
Any construction client, investor, local authority or public sector procurement organisation can apply to become a Client Partner. It is free to join and requires the following commitments:
- Relevant construction projects with a duration of 12 weeks or more register with the Scheme
- An initial three-year commitment to being a Client Partner
- Active participation and collaboration in client leadership activities.

Joining our Client Partnership programme is easy, all you have to do is make an application in writing. We will then send you our Terms of Reference and a Partnership Memorandum of Understanding. We will also be on hand to help with any questions you may have.
